Polini Motori presents the new Ø72 cylinder kit for Vespa 200 PX / PE, developed to create a 244 cc configuration with increased torque, power and acceleration, while maintaining strength and reliability.
The cylinder kit is designed to work together with the new Polini crankshaft featuring a 60 mm stroke and 127 mm connecting rod, sold separately. The 72 mm bore and 60 mm stroke bring to a displacement of 244 cc.
The cast-iron cylinder has been selected to ensure strength and consistent operating stability. The transfer-port and exhaust-port geometries have been completely redesigned to optimize gas flow and deliver a broad powerband, with strong response at low and mid-range rpm and good top-end performance.
Particular attention has also been paid to the Ø72 piston, equipped with two 1 mm Japanese steel chrome-plated piston rings. The piston was developed taking into account the specific geometry of the Vespa PE engine, characterized by an asymmetrical thrust axis in relation to the intake and exhaust ports. Special reinforcing ribs increase structural rigidity while keeping the piston weight to just 234 grams.
The cylinder head uses eight fastening screws, centering on the cylinder and a copper gasket. These solutions are designed to ensure a stable fit, high sealing performance and efficient heat transfer. An integrated bypass hole in the cylinder reduces the effort required during kick-starting, making the engine easier to start.
The new configuration also requires an upgrade to the clutch. The new crankshaft is not compatible with the Vespa original clutch: its splined profile is designed for use with the Polini clutch hub, part number 230.0506, which allows it to be paired with the Polini HT Clutch. This solution has been developed to ensure a secure connection and efficient transmission of the increased torque produced by the engine.
The new components were used at the 24 Hours of Zuera together with other Polini products already in the catalogue, including Polini engine cases, creating an engine assembled entirely from Polini components.
The Vespa of the Spanish Castrol team won its category after 24 hours of racing, providing a particularly demanding test for the entire configuration.
The cylinder kit can be installed on original and aftermarket engine cases that have been suitably modified and prepared. Pairing it with Polini engine cases allows its characteristics to be further enhanced in terms of cylinder filling and overall engine efficiency.

Polini Motori presents its new crankshaft for Vespa 200 PX / PE, developed to work in combination with the Polini Ø72 mm cylinder kit, sold separately, to create the 244 cc configuration.
Featuring a 60 mm stroke and a 127 mm long connecting rod, the crankshaft is designed to handle the increased displacement and torque while providing high levels of strength and precision.
The Ø22 mm oversized big-end pin increases the strength of the assembly and helps maintain correct crankshaft alignment even under heavy loads. The CNC-machined connecting rod ensures high mechanical strength and manufacturing precision.
The crankshaft is supplied complete with the oil mixer gear, a distinctive feature of the Polini offering, already included in the package.
For correct installation, the new crankshaft is not compatible with the original Vespa clutch. The splined profile is designed for the Polini clutch hub, part no. 230.0506, which is required for use with the Polini HT Clutch and ensures effective transmission of the higher torque generated by the engine.
The crankshaft is optimized for both rotary-valve and reed-valve configurations. The intake area profile has been redesigned to improve fluid dynamics and balancing, while the timing has been developed to provide an effective and consistent response throughout the power range.
